Sometimes getting from Sun City Grand Surprise Arizona (or anywhere in the west valley) to locations in Phoenix or beyond can be an exercise in patience... unfortunately not one of my virtues :(
Last weekend I had to go to a conference in Scottsdale. Like a dummy I head out on the loop-101 only to come to a screeching halt at 51st Ave. Mind you, the are plenty of ways to bypass these closures but you need to know where the closures are and how extensive they are before jumping on one of the area freeways.
Because I hadn't done my homework though, I didn't know how extensive the closure on the 101 was so I dogged it out. They eventually routed us off the loop and let us get back on at 19th Ave only (this was the MOST infuriating part) to have all 3 lanes immediately narrowed down to one lane again at 7th Ave. WHAT????? Are you kidding me????
A trip that should have taken me about an hour ended up taking an hour and 45 minutes.
So.... for those of you planning on visiting the valley, do your homework. Go to the Arizona Department of Transportation and check for freeway closures. On the weekends it sometimes feels like you can't get from point A to point B because every direction may have some construction going on.
The good news is, the greater Phoenix valley is designed on a grid system so the surface streets are usually a great alternative.
Good luck! And give me a call if you are looking for a home for sale in Sun City Festival, Sun City Grand, Corte Bella, Trilogy at Vistancia or one of the other Arizona 45+ & 55+ retirement communities on the west side of town.

Thanks for the update, Kathy. Enjoy your weekend!
Kathy - UGH! I wish I would've checked AR last night! Left Downtown and got stuck on the 10/202 interchange... >:(
Sharon - I know. It's getting to the point where I don't want to travel very far if it requires getting on one of the freeways
