Scams against the elderly - A warning to our Arizona retirement communities homeowners
Because of the warm Arizona climate, Sun City, Sun City West, Sun City Festival and Sun City Grand Arizona (just to name a few) are popular destinations for baby boomers & seniors alike. While many move here with "significant others" it is a fact of life that many of our residents eventually find themselves alone or isolated.
Unfortunately there are scammers or other criminals who have made a career out of taking advantage of our elders. I came across this video from Arizona's Maricopa County Sheriff's Office and thought I would share it with you as a reminder to watch out for yourselves as well as others who live close by.

Kathy, that was truly a sad story but I can see from the video how easily this could happen. Since there are so many elderly seniors out the all alone and so venerable just for some companionship, even from a crook who is taking advantage of trust.
Kathy,
I hate when some abusers try to take advanage of the old persons, that's the best that they can do? ohh my god ! great blog and thanks for sharing it !
Mary & Ray - Yes, it is a sad state of our country these days that we have to be on the alert constantly for scammers.
Kathy, Please don't rub it in about ice dams, damn... if you see any great buys and friends we are snow bird buyers. We are going to Fl this year but I prefer AZ golf, pools and sunshine.
Hi Kathy, I'm sorry to hear about the scams against the elderly. That is SO sad. In our area we've had a huge influx of retirees coming in from Floriding and the Northeast. If only we had enough product. I work w/clients going into Del Webb in Cary and some have lived in Sun City! Take care and best wishes for a successful 2010!
Kathy, good article and sick isn't it that people make a living scamming people.
Tracy - I know you have some wonderful retirement communities in your area. Unfortunately when you have a large population of a particular demographic there is someone out there trying to figure out how to capitalize off of them
Josee - The depths these predators go constantly amazes me. You see it in the natural disaster areas too. How people have the nerve to take advantage of victims (and the people who are trying to help them) makes my stomach turn
